Drum Roooooolllllllllllllllll!!!  Drum Rooooooooooooolllllllllllllllllllllllll!!!

Yes, people, I’m back! After hiatus of what, oh forget it, it’s been soooooooooooooo looooooooooonnnnnggggggggg that I’ve put quill to parchment, that makes me feel really nostalgic about this stuff!!! I know you guys missed me, and trust me, I missed you guys too!!! It’s just that life sometimes takes us by surprise and then through roller-coasters, and then you try to give your focused attention and concentration to the matters at hand. At times, you have to let go of stuff, always knowing that you’ll come back again, at an opportune time and moment. All right, I’m being too Kung-Fueeeeeeee (Kung Fu Panda), so I’ll cut it and say it – LOVE YOU GUYS!!!

And what better way to make a comeback – 25th anniversary of Calvin & Hobbes! The delight, the joy, of millions of readers out there – he’s simply irascible, unpredictable, and totally zany!!! Bill Watterson did a service to humanity, by putting our childhood in drawings – alright, not everyone’s childhood is as crazy as Calvin’s (mine was 🙂 ) – and the sheer joy and unbridled laughter that he brings to us through the most famous ever boy and tiger combo is simply awesome! So no writings from me this Thursday – it’s Calvin & Hobbes time! And because you’ve been such a great audience, you shall receive Calvin & Hobbes strips here daily 😀 😀 :D, till Bill Watterson sues me for copyright infringement and throws me in prison without internet access!!! Now ain’t that a come-back Bonanza!!! You are most welcome!!!

Note: This is not to take away the joy of reading Calvin & Hobbes and I do not support downloading images and reading of the net. I hope readers will enjoy reading about Calvin’s exploits and Hobbes’s wisdom, and would want to own them as books, just like I do 😀

Pigs Can Fly

August 13, 2009

Hola, Hola, Hola… The Mexican Wave is here… And I ain’t talking about the football, man – it’s the SWINE FLU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I know, for viewers around the world, this might be stale news, especially in the West; but from where I come, it’s hotter than Jessica Alba running around in a bikini on Sunset Boulevard 😀 😀 😀 Though, I wouldn’t mind that in lieu of this Swine Flu. In the past few weeks, the whole of India has been in the grip of this vile, contagious disease. Imagine the horror! Only now had they escaped the torturous grip of Rakhi Sawant’s efforts to find a bride, oops, groom, and now they are subject to this. I tell you, we Indians suffer and put up with a lot.

To get to the crux of the news, apparently, some pigs have been flying from over Mexico and Latin America, spreading their droppings all over. The droppings are so fatal, that they have induced a billion to resemble the near and dear ones of Daaku Mangal Singh. Daaku Mangal Singh, for the uninitiated, was a dacoit/rapist/debaucher/terror device used in practically every Bollywood movie before Mr. India. Daaku Mangal Singh can rape children at night, pick up women in daylight and fondle the goats and cows as he’d please. I’m sorry – make it he could rape the women at night, fondle children in daylight, and pick up goats and cows as he’d please. Look at the terror! Even my fingers started trembling and typing garbage on their own! But with the advent of Mogambo, and nuclear bombs that could be turned on/off by a lever from a pick-up crane, and remote islands that have despots and practically no contact with the world, the death of Daaku Mangal Singh was imminent. But for us old-timers, he still remains our childhood fright. After all, who wants to be fondled in daylight???

Love Of My Life…

May 21, 2009

I know, I know… That no matter what I say, do or think, you still won’t be able to erase the feelings of betrayal, loneliness and dejection that I have brought about in my absence. I made love to you like a wild vagabond lover, and left you standing in the rain all alone, when you were in the throes of your passion. But that’s part of me being a vagabond. When I have to go on my quest for myself and the truth, and the truth in myself, and myself in the truth…

But now I’m back, and boy are we gonna have a swell time together!!! We’ll hit all the right spots, and I’ll make up to you for all the time I’ve been away… Promise… So like good love-making, I am not gonna hit the spot early on, but tease you and tempt you about the good things to come 😉 😉 😉 So this is a post for starters, signifying all the good things to come – Welcome to Season 2 of Ivan and His Shining Gun 😉 😉 😉

Born Again

August 15, 2008

Has anybody ever tried to find out how it feels to be born? Everyone knows how a mother feels when she gives birth to a child – joy, love, relief, pleasure with pain, the feeling of creation… but how does a baby feel? Does anyone know how it feels to be born? Does anyone know how the Earth must have felt when God created it? The Bible says that God was pleased with what he had created. So we know God’s feelings. But there come moments in life, when you may not exactly feel like being born, but it may come close to that. A feeling of gaining a new life, reliving the moment, the feeling of being born.

It comes in varied forms – when one scrapes through a fatal accident, or is saved from the clutches of a debilitating illness. A change in job, a change in project, marriage, a change in religion, a change in place, all of these moments come close to be being born. Because just like a child is displaced from it’s mother’s womb, so also we get placed in an unknown, and new situation. But then, why do we, unlike little children, not learn to adapt to the new and the unknown? Why do we fear what we fearlessly strode into as little children?

The Wacken Open Air Festival in Germany is on baby, and boy, does it rock!!! And it will, with Iron Maiden headlining the event!!! Since I don’t earn much to travel all the way to Germany and back, and though you’ve been generous with your love and admiration, it would look highly embarrassing to ask you for donations 😦 😦 😦 So well, while Maiden (Gods) rocks the pants off thousands in Germany, I thought I’ll try the same among a few hundreds here… And hence, this 2-part episode of Thursday Nights, the ivanblogs Open Air Festival!!! And to check out the real one, you can go here and have fun

Left Of Center

July 18, 2008

Heya People,

I’ve heard a long wazzup takes away the attention from the material, so well, I’ll begin with a tame “Heya”… After all, I’m meeting you guys in as many as two days, and well, I know for a fact that other than me, nothing very “wazzzzupppppping” has happened in your lives… So here we go again…

The title is ripped off (that’s a first) from a VH1 commercial for Alternative music. What I liked about that commercial is the voice-over which says how Alternative music is seen as an answer to Mainstream, how it tries to be different and not popular, and how it ends up being Mainstream and Popular… And that’s so very true! The British punk-rock underground started as an answer to the heavily-operatic, highly-arena like, larger-than-life heavy metal and hard rock that were ruling the roost in those days. And then the punk bands themselves became mainstream. The most famous example of Alternative music going Mainstream is Nirvana, and how Kurt Cobain couldn’t handle the pressure of the huge popularity that came when Nirvana’s brand of alternative suddenly became the flavor of the time.

But the Left has another, perhaps more relevant and rather sinister meaning. It has officially come to represent the Left-wingers, the Communists, The Comrades, The Socialists, The Men in Red. This is what Wikipedia has to say about it (and I consider it the source of my immense knowledge and wisdom):

In politics, left-wing, the political left, or the Left are terms that refer to politics that seek to reform or abolish existing social hierarchies and promote a more equal distribution of wealth and privilege. In general, the left advocates for a society where all people have an equal opportunity, which they often describe as a “level playing field”.
